J Rod Wald
Before J Rod Wald ever stepped into a studio, he was filling notebooks.
Growing up in Hobart, Oklahoma, he spent countless hours working on the family farm. Long days on a tractor and afternoons hauling hay gave him plenty of time to think, and eventually those thoughts started turning into songs. What began as a way to pass the time slowly became something he couldn’t stop doing.
Music was always around. When his older brother brought home a guitar from college, J Rod became determined to learn how to play it. He taught himself by ear, spending hours chasing songs, learning chords, and figuring things out one note at a time.
By the time he released “Oklahoma Girl,” he already had years of songwriting behind him. The song opened a new door, turning a private creative outlet into something he could share with the world. From there, the focus shifted from simply writing songs to building a career around them.
Today, Wald’s music reflects the place that raised him. There’s plenty of Oklahoma in the stories he tells. Small towns, faith, hard work, ambition, and the feeling that there’s always another horizon waiting somewhere down the road. His songs aren’t built on trends or polished narratives. They’re built on real experiences and the lessons that come from living them.
Whether he’s on stage or putting pen to paper, J Rod Wald is still doing what he’s done from the beginning. Paying attention to the world around him and turning it into a song.
